Olivier Bello
Arsenal Modelist

Olivier Bello's 1/36th scale model
Some information on the model builder's work

Built entirely in pear wood, this model was for me an opportunity to study ship carpentry and it allowed me to become familiar with the various methods of assembly used by shipwrights of the time.

L'Aurore has been built with the hull planking in place on the starboard side and lets the details of the internal framing apparent on the port side.

All parts have been carved from a solid piece and none was bent by heat or humidity.

The plans used to build the model are from a work by Jean Boudriot.

The construction required 1,500 hours over a period of two years.

The model dimensions are 1.2m (length), .36m (beam) and .36m (height).

The model is currently on display at the Maison de la Négritude et des Droits de l'Homme in Champignay, department of Haute-Saône.
