Introduction

The nautical terminology of the Mediterranean is special: masts, jib boom, yards, shrouds, braces are designated as trees, batelot, antennas, sartis and bragots. For clarity, we will keep to the traditional designations with the exception of antennas.

The masts are pole masts and their tops fitted with sheaves are termed calcets.
