Progressing toward the stern you will be able to appreciate the great number of pieces that connect the deck beams to insure the strength of the planking of the various decks, to observe the location of the mast step on the keelson at the bottom of the hold, the break of the quarterdeck and the way in which it connects to the gangways, the hold and its many compartments, the big double ladder providing access from the depths of the ship toward the back of the quarterdeck through the companionway. The quarterdeck is fitted with a cleverly arranged stairway that provides a single access to the poop deck at the bulkhead.
